August 16, 2007
Volume 2, Number 8
Where has the summer gone? It is hard to believe that we are in the dog days of summer already and the start of school is just around the corner. It doesn’t seem that long ago we celebrated Memorial Day and now we have Labor Day creeping up on us in a couple of weeks. However, the hot weather combined with high humidity reminds us that summer is not quite over. It also signals that the hectic annual county and state fair season is upon us.
REMINDER - Submit your 4-H & FFA show feed winners as soon as possible after
your local fairs. If one of your customers fed a qualifying amount (see
requirements) of either Honor or Show Chow and won Grand or Reserve Champion at
the county or state fair (no jackpot shows), he/she may be eligible for an
award. In the Show Feed section of this newsletter, you will find all the
information you need including the requirements and entry forms. Don’t forget to
include pictures of the individuals and their animals when submitting your
winners.
Congratulations on your impressive horse feed sales in 2007. Sales are up
significantly over the same time period last year. The Purina Horse Feed growth
you are experiencing is increasing despite higher grain/feed prices and a very
tough horse market. Your efforts have resulted in an increase in sales of our
value-added products (Equine Senior, Ultium, Strategy, Omolene, Horseman’s Edge)
while our economy product (Country Acres) has held steady. So what do we do for
an encore? Check out the Horse Section of this newsletter for upcoming events
and specials that will be taking place in the fall.

Retail Is Detail!
77% of consumers say they would spend an average of 21% more $'s
if a store was remodeled or renewed in line with the features they want and
value. A recent consumer study indicated the following features were
important:
#1 - Store staff have the most influence in how consumers perceive a store.
#2 -
Restrooms -- it is true that customers judge you about how well your
restrooms are constructed and maintained.
Other items of high importance to the customer are:
Store Layout
Noise Level
Temperature
Parking Lot
Lighting
Flooring
Even if a new store remodel or construction is not in your immediate plans, be
sure to cover the basics . . .
ê Staff training and morale are still #1 to the
customer.
ê Provide good lighting in a comfortable
shopping environment
and clean restrooms.
If you would like help evaluating your current store or are interested in
enhancing your retail presence, give us a call!

Spread The Word . . . mmmmmmmMazuri®!
There are many local clubs interested in Mazuri® and need
